Kombumerri People - Gold Coast Traditional Services

$3,500.00

Artist Bookings collaborates with the Kombumerri People, Traditional Owners of the Gold Coast, offering Welcome ceremonies, traditional dances, smoking ceremonies, and cultural services. The Kombumerri, a Yugambeh clan, have lived along the Nerang River, Currumbin, and Tallebudgera Creeks of the Gold Coast for over 20,000 years. Their sacred sites include the Bora Ring at Burleigh Heads and Jellurgal mountain. The 2002 ILUA allowed the Gold Coast Convention Centre to be built on Kombumerri lands.

The Kombumerri People have a rich history, with their ancestors' burial ground in Broadbeach dating back 1,200 years. They have maintained their spiritual and cultural ties to the land and sea where their ancestors lived. The Bora Ring at Burleigh Heads is significant as a men's initiation space, while Jellurgal mountain holds women's burial grounds and connects to the Dreaming story ‘Jabreen’. Despite first contact with Europeans in 1842, the Kombumerri have preserved their cultural heritage and continue to share it through various services and ceremonies.
