Drum Voices - Cuban and Nigerian Percussion
Drum Voices - Cuban and Nigerian Percussion
"Drum Voices" delves into the deeper meanings behind Yoruba drumming and dancing. These art forms were brought from Nigeria to Cuba during the slave trade and offer insights into Yoruba beliefs.
The team behind the project consists of Aloy, a Cuban dancer who has lived in Australia and Dubai; Kayode, a Nigerian master of the "talking drum" (Gangan) and YHCAV cultural officer; and Adrian, a percussionist and anthropologist with English and Brazilian roots, who works in West Africa and Latin America.
Drum Voices is a collaboration with the Yoruba Heritage and Cultural Association of Victoria (YHCAV).
