Sam The Man - Ukulele - Hawaian, Jazz
SAM THE MAN is a Melbourne-based ukulele virtuoso and guitarist specialising in Hawaiian and jazz island music. His career began in Perth during the 1980s, forming a Hawaiian band with steel guitar player Lucky Oceans. Since 2008, annual visits to Hawaii have refined his signature jazzy island style, supported by studies under masters like Byron Yasui, Benny Chong, and Kimo Hussey. A respected figure in the acoustic scene, Sam has performed at the Adelaide Guitar Festival, Melbourne Ukulele Festival, and featured on eight tracks of the ABC album The Ukulele. He frequently collaborates with prominent vocalists such as Emma Hamilton and Hetty Kate.
Adapting from a solo instrumentalist to a full collaborative band, this performer curates live music for festivals, markets, venues, government functions, and private parties. He offers flexible arrangements, pairing his ukulele with vocalists, bassists, or steel guitarists. For smaller venue setups, he provides sound equipment suitable for minor settings only.
