Bassidi - Balafon, Djembe, Kamalan N'goni
BASSIDI is a multi-instrumentalist from central Mali born into a traditional griot family. Raised alongside the balafon, a gourd-resonated xylophone, he learned the village songs and rhythms passed down through generations. His professional work focuses on the performance of the balafon and barra gourd drum. BASSIDI maintains an international touring profile and has executed prominent collaborations within Australia. He performed with the Central Australian Aboriginal Women's Choir at the 2018 Desert Song Festival and collaborated with the band Highlife at the 2019 Splendour in the Grass festival. His arrangements fuse traditional griot music with afro-jazz, Latin, reggae and contemporary styles.
This solo artist supplies live music curated for festivals, markets, venues, government events, multicultural events, pubs and private parties. Performing on balafon, djembe, kamalan n'goni and gourd drum, BASSIDI delivers a specialized instrumental presentation.
