Paula T for 'Mic Check' Interview

Welcome back to Mic Check as we have a chat with Paula about her exciting international career!

 

Can you tell us a bit about your performance background and how you got started in the industry?

I started of in the live music circuit in Sydney with my band Crackerjam. We played at Clubs ,parties and events in Sydney. I was offered a singing contract in Tokyo and I ended up living and working as a singer there for twenty years.

 
 
I was offered a record deal in Tokyo to record my first album. It was amazing to see my album for sale at Tower records in Shibuya!

How do you approach your creative process, from ideation to completion?

When I am writing I will create a track using Logic Pro. I will write lyrics and melody to go with the track I have composed. I also collaborate with other producers and I create lyrics and melody to their music.

 

What advice would you give to aspiring artists looking to break out?

Continue to create and work out ways to record your own music. Study! There is always more to learn about music . Listen to many different music genres with an open heart and mind.

 
 

How do you stay motivated and inspired to create and develop new work?

Setting aside time to write and compose. Check out artists that inspire you and research their creative process to get some ideas.

 

Can you tell us about a collaboration or project that you've worked on that was particularly memorable or influential?

I collaborated with a producer in Tokyo and we released an album a few years ago. I am currently writing another electronic music album and collaborating with various producers on the tracks.
